Gracilis Collection

Gracilis (Vespertilionidae) is a genus of small mammals in the family Vespertilionidae, commonly known as vesper bats, and are found throughout the world, with some species inhabiting Europe, Asia and North America. The genus consists of approximately 30 species, which vary in size from 2 to 5 cm in length. Gracilis bats typically have short ears and a long snout that is used for echolocation. They feed mainly on insects but may also consume fruits and nectar. Their wings are adapted for fast flight and they can reach speeds up to 40 km/h when hunting prey or avoiding predators. During the day they roost in caves or trees, while at night they emerge to hunt for food using their echolocation abilities. Gracilis bats play an important role in controlling insect populations by consuming large numbers of pests each night, making them beneficial to humans and other animals alike.
