Secundus Collection

Secundus (Vespertilionidae) is a genus of small to medium-sized vespertilionid bats, and are found in the Old World, from Europe and North Africa eastwards to India and China. The genus consists of six species, all of which have a reddish-brown fur on their backs and pale fur on their undersides. Secundus bats have long ears that are rounded at the tips, short snouts, and large eyes. They feed primarily on insects such as moths and beetles, which they catch in flight using echolocation. Secundus bats roost in caves or crevices during the day but can also be found roosting under tree bark or inside buildings at night. These nocturnal mammals are important for controlling insect populations in agricultural areas, making them beneficial to humans as well as other animals living nearby.
