Serotine Collection

Serotine (Vespertilionidae) is a family of small mammals belonging to the order Chiroptera, and are found throughout Europe, North Africa and parts of Asia. Serotine bats have large ears, long wings and short fur. They feed mainly on insects, but some species also eat fruit or nectar. Their roosts can be found in hollow trees, caves and buildings, and are nocturnal animals that use echolocation to navigate in the dark. They often form large colonies in their roosts during the day and disperse at night to forage for food. During winter they hibernate in their roosts until spring when they become active again. Serotines play an important role in controlling insect populations which helps maintain a healthy environment for humans and other animals alike.
