Gila Monsters Collection

Gila monsters are a species of large, venomous lizards native to the southwestern United States and parts of Mexico, and are the only species in the genus Heloderma, and one of two known species of venomous lizards, and are grow up to 24 inches long and weigh up to 2 pounds. They have a heavy body with bead-like scales, short legs, and a blunt tail. Their coloration is typically black or brownish-black with pink or orange blotches along their back and sides. Gila monsters feed on small animals such as birds, eggs, rodents, frogs, insects, and carrion. They use their strong jaws to crush prey before injecting them with venom from glands located near their lower jaw and can listed as near threatened by the IUCN due to habitat loss caused by urbanization and agricultural development in their range.
