Adult Rosemary BEETLE - on Rosemary leaf.
Location: London garden, UK
Chrysolina americana
Pest of Rosemary, Lavender and Thyme plants. Recent introduction to UK from southern Europe. First recorded from the UK in 1963, when a number of individuals were found in a house in Cheshire. The next record was from the RHS Garden at Wisley in 1994, when a few beetles were found on potted rosemary plants. Since then, the species has been recorded on lavender plants and rosemary bushes throughout the south of England. The beetle overwinters as an adult and aestivates during the hottest part of the summer.

Meet the Rosemary Rebel - London's Newest Garden Intruder!
EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this photo print, we catch a mischievous Adult Rosemary Beetle red-handed as it delicately perches on a vibrant rosemary leaf. This notorious pest has become quite the troublemaker for rosemary and lavender plants across the United Kingdom since its recent introduction. Originating from Europe, this audacious beetle made its debut in the UK back in 1963 when a group of them were discovered causing havoc in a Cheshire home. Fast forward to 1994, and they were spotted wreaking havoc once again at RHS Garden at Wisley, munching away on potted rosemary plants. With their shiny exterior and segmented bodies, these invaders have quickly spread throughout southern England, targeting unsuspecting lavender plants and rosemary bushes. They even have unique survival tactics - overwintering as adults and taking summer siestas during scorching temperatures! But fear not! Thanks to wildlife enthusiast Steve Hopkin's incredible photography skills, we can now marvel at the beauty of this alien species without worrying about commercial use (not that anyone would want to!). So sit back, relax with your favorite herb-infused tea or dish, and enjoy this close-up encounter with our very own garden rebel - SPH-3327!
