Mirror, Mirror on the Path - Spinifex Pigeon's Quenching Quest!
EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this snapshot captured by Don Hadden, we witness a rare moment of avian elegance and adaptability. Meet DH-3668, the Spinifex Pigeon with its rufous-bellied charm, found exclusively in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. With their feathery crests held high and reflecting gracefully in a puddle on a concrete path outside the local nursing post in Marble Bar, these pigeons prove that even arid landscapes can't dampen their spirits or thirst for life! Living harmoniously amidst spinifex-covered terrains, these permanent residents have mastered survival techniques like no other. Gathering in small coveys or sometimes forming flocks of fifty or more birds, they find solace and sustenance from the seeds of Triodia sp (spinifex). But it is during this precious moment caught by Don Hadden's lens that we see them indulging in one of nature's simplest pleasures – drinking water! With heads dipped low into the shimmering reflection below them, these feathered beauties remind us to appreciate life's little joys even when faced with harsh conditions. So next time you're parched and seeking refreshment under an unforgiving sun, remember DH-3668 and its fellow spinifex pigeons. Let their resilience inspire you to find beauty wherever you are – be it a desert oasis or simply your own
