EDITORS COMMENTS
In this stunning photograph, a young Muskox (Ovibos moschatus) stands proudly in the tundra of Nome, Alaska. The Muskox, also known as the Arctic Ox or the Musky Ox, is a large, hoofed mammal that is well-adapted to the harsh Arctic climate. This young Muskox is part of a herd, which provides protection and social structure for the animals. Muskoxen are members of the Bovidae family, which also includes antelopes and goats. They are artiodactyls, meaning they have an even number of toes on each foot. Muskoxen are herbivores, feeding on grasses, willows, and other vegetation. Muskoxen were once widespread throughout the Arctic regions of Europe and North America. However, they were hunted to near extinction in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Today, they have been reintroduced to some areas, including Nome, Alaska. The Muskox in this photograph appears healthy and curious, facing the camera with a confident expression. The photograph captures the beauty and resilience of this Arctic species, which has adapted to survive in one of the most extreme environments on Earth. This photograph was taken by M. Watson and is available as a print in various sizes. For more information or to place an order, please contact M. Watson at prints@ardea.com or call +44 (0) 20 8672 2067.
