EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the RFA Black Rover, a small fleet tanker, sailing through the South Western Approaches of the English Channel. The image captures a significant moment in naval operations as on 15th November 2011, HMS Iron Duke engaged in a Replenishment at Sea (RAS) with the Black Rover off the coast of Plymouth. HMS Iron Duke, temporarily away from its homeport in Portsmouth to undertake a Specialist Navigator Course, is seen receiving essential supplies and fuel from the Black Rover during this operation. This course requires HMS Iron Duke to navigate around various ports including Hull and Jersey before returning to Portsmouth by month-end. The photograph highlights not only the impressive capabilities of both vessels but also emphasizes their crucial role within the Royal Navy's operations. As part of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA), which supports British naval forces worldwide, RFA Black Rover plays an integral role in providing vital logistical support at sea. Captured by LA (Phot) Keith Morgan, this stunning image encapsulates both power and precision as these two vessels work seamlessly together amidst vast open waters. It serves as a testament to the dedication and professionalism exhibited by all those involved in ensuring smooth maritime operations for our armed forces.
