Andreas Achenbach (1815-1910) was a German landscape painter and one of the leading members of the Düsseldorf school of painting. He was born in Kassel, Germany and studied at the Academy of Arts in Düsseldorf. His works were characterized by a realistic approach to nature, with an emphasis on light and atmosphere. He traveled extensively throughout Europe, painting views of Italy, France, Holland and England. His paintings often featured dramatic skies filled with clouds or storms.
