Salomon de Bray Collection

Salomon de Bray (1597-1664) was a Dutch Golden Age painter and architect. He was born in Amsterdam and trained under the painter Pieter Pietersz the Elder. He is best known for his architectural works, such as the Church of Our Lady in Haarlem, which he designed in 1632. He also painted many religious works, including several altarpieces for churches throughout Holland. His paintings often featured classical elements such as columns and pilasters, which he used to create a sense of grandeur and majesty. De Bray was also an important figure in Dutch art theory; his treatise on architecture was one of the first books on the subject published in Holland.
