Martin Behaim Collection

Martin Behaim was a German cartographer, navigator, and astronomer who lived in the late 15th century. He is best known for creating the oldest surviving terrestrial globe, the Erdapfel. This globe was made between 1490 and 1492 and is now housed in the German National Museum in Nuremberg. Behaim also wrote extensively about his travels to Portugal, Africa, and India. He was an important figure in Portuguese exploration of Africa during this period as he provided maps and navigational advice to Portuguese explorers.
