Edward Henry Corbould Collection

Edward Henry Corbould (1815-1905) was an English painter and sculptor who specialized in historical scenes. He was born in London, the son of a decorative artist, and studied at the Royal Academy Schools. He became a member of the Royal Academy in 1851 and was appointed as its Keeper from 1874 to 1880. Corbould's works were mainly based on classical mythology and British history, including illustrations for books such as The Iliad and The Odyssey by Homer, Shakespeare's plays, and stories from English folklore. His paintings often featured heroic figures with dramatic poses set against grandiose landscapes or architectural backgrounds.
