Giovanni da Bologna Collection

Giovanni da Bologna (1529-1608), also known as Giambologna, was an Italian sculptor and artist who is considered to be one of the most important Mannerist sculptors of the 16th century. He was born in Douai, Flanders, and trained in Florence under the renowned sculptor, Jacopo Sansovino. His work is characterized by its dynamic compositions and graceful figures that often appear to be in motion. He was particularly known for his bronze sculptures such as The Rape of the Sabine Women (1583) and Mercury (1575).
