Byam Shaw Collection

Byam Shaw (1872-1919) was a British artist and art school founder. He was born in London, England and studied at the Slade School of Art. He later went on to teach at the Royal Academy Schools and establish his own art school in London. His works were mainly oil paintings, but he also produced some watercolors and drawings. He is known for his landscapes, figure studies, portraits, still lifes and genre scenes. His style was influenced by Impressionism as well as Symbolism and Post-Impressionism. Byam Shaw's works are held in many public collections including the Tate Gallery in London and the National Gallery of Scotland in Edinburgh. He is remembered for his commitment to teaching young artists about painting techniques as well as inspiring them with his own work.
