Paul Serusier Collection

Paul Serusier (1864-1927) was a French Post-Impressionist painter and art theorist. He is best known for his painting The Talisman, which became the inspiration for the Nabis movement. Serusier was born in Paris and studied at the Académie Julian under Jules Lefebvre and Gustave Boulanger. His early works were Impressionist in style, but he later moved towards Symbolism and Synthetism, which blended elements of both Impressionism and Neo-Impressionism. His most famous work The Talisman was created after a visit to Pont-Aven with Paul Gauguin in 1888. This painting inspired many other artists to adopt a more symbolic approach to their work, leading to the formation of the Nabis group of painters in 1890. Serusier's influence on modern art cannot be overstated; his innovative techniques laid the groundwork for many artistic movements that followed him throughout history.
