Bago is a city located in the Bago Region of Myanmar, formerly known as Pegu and has situated about 90 km northeast of Yangon and lies on the banks of the Bago River. The city has a long history dating back to 825 AD when it was founded by two Mon brothers, Thamala and Wimala. It served as the capital of Hanthawaddy Kingdom from 1369 to 1539 and was an important trading port between India and China during this period. Today, a bustling commercial centre with many industries such as textiles, woodworking, food processing, rubber production and more.
