In this historic photograph, Ken Bates, a prominent figure in English football during the 1980s, is seen in deep concentration as he reviews documents at Stamford Bridge, the home of Chelsea Football Club. Bates, who was born on March 2,1938, in Leeds, England, joined Chelsea in 1982 and would go on to serve as chairman from 1982 to 1993. During his tenure, Bates led Chelsea through a period of significant change and progress. He oversaw the modernization of Stamford Bridge, which included the construction of the Shed End Stand and the expansion of the East Stand.
