The Magical Magyars line up at Wembley before sensationally defeating England 6-3 in 1953

Football - 1953 / 1954 season - England 3 Hungary 6
The Magical Magyars Hungarian team line up for The Match of the Century against England at Wembley.
Left to right: Ferenc Puskas, Gyula Grosics, Gyula Lorant, Nandor Hidegkuti, Jeno Buzanszky, Mihaly Lantos, Jozsef Zakarias, Zoltan Czibor, Jozsef Bozsik, Laszlo Budai, Sandor Kocsis.
The British press referred to it as the " Match of the Century" - the originators of the game, against the finest team in the world at that time. However Englands were defeated at home for the first time to a side from outside of the British Isles, and were shown to be technically and tactically inferior to the Hungarian side. The result led to a review of the antiquated training and tactics used by the England team, and the subsequent adoption of continental practices at an international and club level in the English game.

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this iconic photo print, we witness the historic moment when the legendary Hungarian team, known as the Magical Magyars, line up at Wembley Stadium before their sensational victory over England in 1953. This match, famously dubbed "The Match of the Century" pitted the originators of football against what was considered to be the finest team in the world at that time. From left to right, we see a lineup consisting of some of Hungary's greatest footballing talents: Ferenc Puskas, Gyula Grosics, Gyula Lorant, Nandor Hidegkuti, Jeno Buzanszky, Mihaly Lantos, Jozsef Zakarias, Zoltan Czibor, Jozsef Bozsik, Laszlo Budai and Sandor Kocsis. These names would go down in history for their exceptional skills and tactical brilliance displayed on that fateful day. This game marked a turning point for English football. For the first time ever on home soil and against a non-British Isles side outside their comfort zone; England were defeated by an opponent who showcased superior technical ability and tactics. The shocking result prompted a much-needed review of England's outdated training methods and strategies. Ultimately leading to significant changes within both international and club levels across English football - adopting more progressive continental practices. This photograph serves as a reminder not only of Hungary's triumph but also as a catalyst for revolutionizing British football forever
