Austria has a multi-party system with several major parties including Social Democratic Party (SPÖ), Austrian People's Party (ÖVP), Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) and Greens. Austria has been a member of the European Union since 1995 and participates in its single market as well as in other EU policies such as Schengen Area or Eurozone. In addition to that, it also holds an important role in international organizations like United Nations or Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.
