Meteora Collection

Meteora is a unique geological formation in central Greece, consisting of towering sandstone pillars and monasteries perched atop them, and is one of the most important and largest complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries in Greece, second only to Mount Athos. The site was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1988 for its outstanding Byzantine art and architecture. The monasteries are built on natural sandstone rock pillars, some as high as 400 meters above the ground, which have been shaped by wind and rain over millions of years. Visitors can explore the many churches within each monastery, admire ancient frescoes and mosaics, or take a hike around the base of Meteora's majestic cliffs. An awe-inspiring sight that has captivated visitors for centuries with its beauty and spiritual significance.
