Canvey Island Collection

Canvey Island is a civil parish and reclaimed island in the Thames Estuary in Essex, England and has an area of 7.12 square miles and a population of 38,170 as of the 2011 census. The island was originally marshland until it was drained by Dutch engineers in the 17th century, allowing for settlement to take place. During World War II it was heavily bombed by German forces due to its strategic location near London and Southend-on-Sea. Today, a popular tourist destination with its beaches, nature reserves and wildlife parks all attracting visitors from around the world. It also boasts some unique attractions such as an old windmill and a replica Dutch village which are both open to visitors year round.
