Huntingdonshire Collection

Huntingdonshire is a historic county located in the East of England, within the United Kingdom, and is bordered by Cambridgeshire to the south and west, Lincolnshire to the north, and Northamptonshire to the east. The county town is Huntingdon; other major settlements include St Neots, Ramsey and St Ives. The area has a long history dating back to pre-Roman times when it was part of an Iron Age settlement. During Roman Britain it was part of the Catuvellauni kingdom before becoming part of England in 886 AD. In 1068 William I granted Huntingdonshire its first charter as a shire county. Today it remains largely rural with many small villages and towns scattered throughout its landscape, and is home to several nature reserves including Grafham Water and Paxton Pits which are popular spots for birdwatching and angling respectively.
