Sir John Soanes Collection

Sir John Soane was an English architect who lived from 1753 to 1837. He is best known for his work on the Bank of England, the Dulwich Picture Gallery and his own home in London, now known as Sir John Soane's Museum. His style of architecture was neoclassical and he was a great admirer of ancient Greek and Roman architecture. He also had a passion for collecting art and antiquities which he displayed in his home, creating one of the first purpose-built public museums in England. The museum today still contains many of these original items as well as other items collected by Soane over the years, and is open to visitors free of charge and is considered one of London's most important cultural attractions.
