Wantage Collection

Wantage is a historic market town located in Oxfordshire, England and has a population of around 25,000 people and is situated on the edge of the Berkshire Downs. The town dates back to Saxon times and was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. Wantage became an important market town during the Middle Ages due to its location on a major route between London and Bath. During this period it was also home to King Alfred the Great who founded a monastery here in 871 AD. Today Wantage remains an attractive small town with many interesting buildings including St Peter & St Paul's Church which dates from 1140 AD and The Market Place which still holds regular markets every Wednesday and Saturday.
