Boats Taking Positions Before Race

(Original Caption) Sandusky, O.: The Sandusky Ice Yacht Club, which has 50 members throughout the state, organizes races on Sandusky Bay. This particular race was called the Lyman Invitational Trophy Race, in which non-members are allowed to compete. They are assigned starting positions by drawing lots. They call it the windward-leeward race, placing the pylon 1 mile away going into the wind. The course is 4 miles long and each boat goes around the pylon twice which constitutes a heat. The race is longer, however, because of the zig-zag course, called tacking, to enable the boats to use the wind for moving. The winner of the race is determined by an accumulative score. The one with the lowest score wins. The winner of this race was Ted Sprague, of Erie, Pa. Unleash your creativity and transform your space into a visual masterpiece.
