Paraplegic Races in Wheelchair in Marathon

(Original Caption) Bob Hall, 25, of Belmont, Massachusetts, pushes himself along in his wheelchair as he competes in the New York City Marathon October 23rd. A total of 4, 823 people started the five-borough run and it was described as the largest field of marathon runners ever assembled. Bill Rodgers, 29, of Melrose, Massachusetts, won for the second consecutive year. His time for the 26 miles, 385 yards was 2 hours, 11 minutes, 28.2 seconds. Hall, the lone wheelchair competitor finished with a time of 2:53:39. Asked to compare Boston, where he competed last Spring and New York, Hall said, "This was a more difficult course and the strong headwinds held me back a bit.".
