Deserted camp of Himba tribe, Northwestern Namibia, Africa

The Himba are indigenous peoples with an estimated population of about 50, 000 people living in northern Namibia, in the Kunene region (formerly Kaokoland) and on the other side of the Kunene River in Angola. There are also a few groups left of the Ovatwa, who are also OvaHimba, but are hunters and gatherers. The OvaHimba are a semi-nomadic, pastoral people, culturally distinguishable from the Herero people in northern Namibia and southern Angola, and speak OtjiHimba (a Herero language dialect), which belongs to the language family of the Bantu. The OvaHimba are considered the last (semi-) nomadic people of Namibia

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the essence of a deserted camp belonging to the Himba tribe in Northwestern Namibia, Africa. The Himba people, an indigenous community with an estimated population of around 50,000 individuals, reside in the Kunene region and across the Kunene River in Angola. In addition to the Himba, there are also a few remaining groups of Ovatwa, who share cultural similarities but lead a hunter-gatherer lifestyle. The OvaHimba are known for their semi-nomadic and pastoral way of life. They have distinct cultural practices that set them apart from the Herero people living in northern Namibia and southern Angola. Their language, OtjiHimba, is a dialect derived from Herero and belongs to the Bantu language family. In this photograph taken by Danita Delimont for Fine Art Storehouse, we witness an uninhabited village against a backdrop of arid desert landscapes under clear skies dotted with fluffy clouds. The absence of human presence emphasizes both the solitude and resilience that characterizes these nomadic communities. Through this image, viewers can gain insight into one of Namibia's last remaining semi-nomadic tribes while appreciating their unique culture and connection with nature. It serves as a reminder of our diverse world and encourages us to preserve and respect indigenous cultures like those found within the Himba tribe.
