Storm clouds over mountains and forest, Colorado, USA
Populus tremuloides is a deciduous tree native to cooler areas of North America, one of several species referred to by the common name aspen. The trees have tall trunks, up to 25 meters tall, with smooth pale bark, scarred with black. The glossy green leaves, dull beneath, become golden to yellow, rarely red, in autumn. The species often propagates through its roots to form large clonal groves originating from a shared root system. Quaking aspen grows in a wide variety of climatic conditions

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the dramatic beauty of storm clouds hovering over majestic mountains and a lush forest in Colorado, USA. The focal point of the image is the stunning Populus tremuloides, commonly known as aspen trees. These deciduous trees are native to cooler regions of North America and are characterized by their tall trunks, reaching up to 25 meters in height. The smooth pale bark of these trees bears striking black scars, adding an intriguing texture to their appearance. In this photograph, the glossy green leaves of the aspen trees can be seen shimmering beneath the stormy sky. However, it is during autumn that these leaves truly come alive with vibrant hues ranging from golden to yellow and occasionally even red. This natural spectacle transforms the landscape into a breathtaking panorama. What makes this species particularly fascinating is its ability to propagate through its roots, giving rise to extensive clonal groves that originate from a shared root system. As such, quaking aspens thrive in diverse climatic conditions across various terrains.
