Vendor displays souvenirs and trinkets on blanket alongside road, Dades Gorge, Morocco

The Dades Gorges are a series of rugged wadi gorges carved out by the Dades River in Morocco. The river originates in the High Atlas range of the Atlas mountains, flowing some 350 kilometers southwest before joining the Draa River at the edge of the Sahara. The many colored walls of the gorges range anywhere from 200 to 500 meters. The area which now forms the Dades Gorges lay at the bottom of the sea, millions of years ago. Great quantities of sediment were deposited around giant coral reefs, and over time this material became compacted into a variety of sedimentary rocks such as sandstone and limestone. Eventually, the movement of the earths crust caused the region to rise above the sea, forming the Atlas Mountains and surrounding landscape

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the vibrant essence of Dades Gorge, Morocco. Alongside the winding road, a vendor proudly displays an array of souvenirs and trinkets on a colorful blanket. The scene is a testament to the rich cultural heritage and bustling trade that thrives in this breathtaking landscape. The Dades Gorges themselves are a natural wonder, carved out by the mighty Dades River over millions of years. These rugged wadi gorges stretch for miles, with walls ranging from 200 to 500 meters in height. As you gaze at this photograph, it's fascinating to imagine that this very spot was once submerged beneath the sea. Millions of years ago, sediment deposited around colossal coral reefs formed layers upon layers of sandstone and limestone. Over time, tectonic movements lifted these rocks above sea level, giving birth to the majestic Atlas Mountains and its surrounding terrain. In this image devoid of human presence but teeming with life through objects alone, one can almost feel the energy emanating from each souvenir carefully arranged on display. From intricately designed jewelry to handcrafted ceramics and textiles bursting with color - every item tells a story waiting to be discovered by curious travelers passing through. Danita Delimont's lens has beautifully captured not just an ordinary roadside market but also a snapshot into Morocco's history and geological wonders. This print serves as both an invitation for adventure seekers yearning for authentic experiences and a reminder that even amidst nature's grandeur lies humanity's creativity
