Originating in Usseira, the aqueduct it is 3 km long. In the 16th century, Queen Catarina commissioned its construction in exchange for the Varzea da Rainhaa (fertile land outside the castle walls). The water was carried through a great number of high arches which crossed extensive vineyards and orchards and came to provide water to the towns main fountains.
