The-canals-of-Flanders-around-Damme-1
A few miles from Brugge, you have the small town of Damme. In the Middle-Ages, this used to be the harbour of Brugge, one of the wealthiest cities in the North.Due to silt the North Sea is now about 25 miles out, but Damme retained its reputation for good food and beer, wonderful old buildings full of the history of revolutionary Flanders.Centuries later Napoleon saw the importance of the area and ordered a system of canals to be built.Today, whichever road you come from, if you want to get to Damme, you ll drive along those beautiful treelined canals. I walked across one of the bridges, a major junction, in Oostkerke, of those magnificent, unique tree lined canals.Behind me were syphons and sluices.A UNIQUE landscape that just goes on and on and on... A photographers paradise!THANX, M, (*_*)

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the enchanting canals of Flanders, specifically in the vicinity of Damme. Once serving as Brugge's bustling harbor during the Middle Ages, Damme still exudes its historical charm with a reputation for delectable cuisine, exquisite beer, and remarkable ancient structures that narrate the revolutionary history of Flanders. Although time has pushed back the North Sea approximately 25 miles due to silt accumulation, Napoleon recognized the significance of this area and commissioned an intricate network of canals. Today, regardless of which road you embark upon to reach Damme, you will be greeted by these picturesque treelined waterways. The photographer had the pleasure of strolling across one such canal bridge in Oostkerke – a prominent intersection within this magnificent landscape. As I stood on that bridge surrounded by nature's beauty, syphons and sluices lay behind me. This unique scenery seems never-ending; it stretches out endlessly before your eyes. For photographers seeking inspiration and an idyllic subject matter to capture through their lens, this is truly a paradise found. Credit: Photograph by Magda Indigo from Fine Art Storehouse
