1958 Sweden Framed Print Collection

In 1958, Sweden hosted the. The tournament was won by Brazil, who beat Sweden 5-2 in the final. This was Brazil's first ever World Cup victory and marked the beginning of their dominance in international football. Other teams that participated included England, France, Yugoslavia and West Germany. The tournament saw some great performances from players such as Pele, Garrincha and Didi of Brazil; Jimmy Greaves of England; Just Fontaine of France; and Liedholm and Simonsson of Sweden. This tournament also saw a new format introduced with 16 teams competing in four groups before progressing to a knockout stage for the quarterfinals onwards. This format has been used ever since with minor changes over time.
