Fred Serenades The Worms: Angler Fred Welding's neighbours don't go much on the strange vibrant sound Fred makes as lovingly he strokes his metal bow across a hickory stick violin but the worms love it. They come wriggling out of their holes for more, whereupon Fred grabs them and promptly goes fishing. Fred, 58, reckons his worms music is an old American trick for catching bait known as grunting'. At his home Runcorn, Cheshire, he said: "Once I get the right note the worms shoot up in their hundreds." Fred's Call.... and he listens for the worms. 19th December 1978
