Elizabeth Taylor, English-American actress, c1950s(?). Elizabeth Taylor made her screen debut as a child in Lassie Come Home in 1943. In the 1960s she became a Hollywood superstar, winning Best Actress Oscars for BUtterfield 8 (1960) and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf (1966). In 1963 she received what was then the highest fee for appearing in a film, when she signed up to play the title role in Cleopatra

Caricature of brother and sister dance act, Fred and Adele Astaire by Nerman during the time of their successful run in Stop Flirting at various London theatres during the mid 1920s. Adele retired from dancing in 1932 when she married Lord Charles Cavendish, second son of the 9th Duke of Devonshire, while Fred carried on towards Hollywood stardom with his new dance partner, Ginger Rogers

An incubator nursery

Nurses attending to sick babies kept alive in a ward of incubators. The incubators pictured are from a design by Paul Altmann and distributed by Messrs Coney and Schenkhein. The machine was automatic with the temperature maintained by a thermostat. A chimney was positioned on top of the incubator, acting as an outlet for impure air
