Admiral Dewey: A Hero's Journey In the annals of history, one name stands out as a symbol of courage and triumph - Admiral George Dewey. Born between 1890 and 1910, this remarkable man etched his legacy in gold through his pivotal role in the Battle of Manila Bay in 1898. As the commander of the American fleet, Admiral Dewey led his forces to victory against Spain's possessions in the East. The litho image captures the intensity of that momentous battle, with Manila being bombarded from all sides by Dewey's relentless fleet. But Admiral Dewey's heroism did not end there. In a black-and-white photo, we witness him standing tall amidst an assassination attempt on President McKinley during their time together. This incident only served to highlight his unwavering dedication to duty and protection. The Spanish-American War raged on, and Admiral Dewey continued to direct action with unparalleled expertise. His strategic brilliance was instrumental in securing victory for America while reinforcing his reputation as an indomitable leader. Returning home triumphant after these victories, New York City welcomed its hero with open arms. A grand naval parade off New York showcased their admiration for Admiral Dewey's valor and sacrifice. Madison Square became adorned with a triumphal arch dedicated solely to honor this extraordinary man who had brought glory to their nation. Congress recognized Admiral Dewey's exceptional service by awarding him the Sword of Honour on the steps of Capitol at Washington D. C. , further cementing his place among America's greatest heroes. Yet it wasn't just Americans who celebrated this legendary figure; even overseas he was revered. In Colombo, Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon), a black-and-white photo captures Admiral Dewey expressing gratitude towards Colonel Savage for providing him with an honorable guard during his visit. Back home again, Mayor Van Wyck joined hands with Admiral Dewey during another parade, the Dewey Land Parade.
