Gazing at the summer sunrise over the Friulian Dolomites, one can't help but marvel at the beauty of the astral sphere. In the past, astronomers used cross staffs and astrolabes to measure altitudes of celestial objects, as depicted in a 19th-century engraving. Meanwhile, surveyors employed quadrants and levels to determine terrestrial altitudes and heights, as shown in historical art. From the lofty heights of the worlds chief mountains, such as the Vajont Valley, to the flight paths of birds and the Richman/Lady Peace Plane, altitude holds a significant role in both the cosmos and our daily lives. This image of a tranquil stratus quietus cloud adds an ethereal touch to the scene, reminding us of the ever-changing skies above Greenwich 1911.
