Girl Guides: Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret send courier

Princess Elizabeth, patrol leader in the Buckingham Palace Company, sends a message by courier pigeon to Lady Baden Powell at Guide Headquarters. It was one of the many messages sent by girl guides all over the country on the occasion of "thinking day", which marks the birthday of the late Lord Baden Powell. Founder of the Boy Scouts, and his wife.Princess Margaret holds the pigeon container, while Princess Elizabeth writes the message, at Windsor. Date: 20th February 1943

Princess Andrew of Greece and daughters

Princess Andrew of Greece (1885-1969), formerly Princess Alice of Battenberg, pictured with her four eldest children. From left, Princess Margarita (1905-1981), later Princess of Hohenlohe-Langeburg, the baby is Princess Sophie (1914-2001), later Princess Christoph of Hesse and then Princess George William of Hanover. Next is Princess Theodora (1906-1969), Margravine of Baden and finally is Princess Cecilie (1911-1937), later Grand Duchess of Hesse. Princess Alice's final child, born in 1921, was the present Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip. She is pictured wearing the Meander tiara, most recently worn by her great-grandaughter, Zara Phillips, on her wedding day. Date: 1916
