Bushrangers were notorious outlaws who roamed the Australian countryside during the 19th century, often evoking fear and fascination among the public. One of the most infamous bushrangers was Ned Kelly, whose last stand became a legendary tale in itself. In C19, Ned Kelly's reign of terror came to an end when he was captured by Police Constable Kelly and railwayman Jesse Dowsett. After his execution in 1880, a death mask was taken as a haunting reminder of his criminal life. During this time, reward posters circulated with detailed lithographs capturing Ned Kelly's distinctive appearance. A few days before his hanging, he was photographed in black and white - an image that would forever be etched into history. His suit of homemade armor also became an engraving symbolizing both ingenuity and defiance. Ned Kelly wasn't alone in his criminal pursuits; he had accomplices known as the Kelly Gang. Joe Byrne met a gruesome fate when he was strung up after death on June 29th, 1880 - a chilling reminder of the consequences faced by those who chose such paths. The threat posed by bushrangers led to precautions being taken for safe passage through dangerous territories. An engraving depicts "an escort of two police" ensuring protection from any potential attacks. In contrast to these tales of lawlessness, engravings showcasing The Royal Military Tournament highlight efforts made to maintain order amidst chaos. Additionally, Black Trackers were employed to pursue bushrangers across Australia - their skills invaluable in bringing these criminals to justice.
