"Caudata: A Fascinating World of Salamanders and Newts" Discover the enchanting world of Caudata, a diverse group of amphibians that includes the mesmerizing Axolotl (Siredon/Ambystoma mexicanum) albino. With its captivating appearance, this captive creature never undergoes metamorphosis and remains in its neotenic form as a white or leucistic salamander. In North Florida, USA, the Eastern tiger salamander (Ambystoma tigrinum) roams freely during December. Its vibrant colors and unique patterns make it a true gem of nature's creation. The Long-Tailed Tit (Morris), though not a salamander itself, adds to the allure with its delicate beauty. This bird gracefully complements the Axolotl's presence in Mexico where it is commonly found in captivity. However, these Mexican salamanders face critical challenges due to their declining population. The white or leucistic form of Ambystoma mexicanum needs our attention and protection for their survival. Venturing into Hallerbos forest habitat in Belgium during May reveals another stunning sight - the Fire Salamander (Salamandra salamandra). Its striking black body adorned with yellow markings creates an awe-inspiring spectacle amidst nature's wonders. Further south at Catemaco Lake in Los Tuxtlas region lies the Broadfoot Mushroomtongue Salamander (Bolitoglossa platydactyla). This elusive species showcases remarkable adaptations that allow it to thrive within its unique environment. Moving on to British waters, we encounter two majestic newts. The Great Crested Newt (Triturus cristatus) elegantly swims through ponds while showcasing its distinctive crest. Meanwhile, underwater during mating season, the Northern Crested Newt male displays his vibrant colors as he seeks a mate.
