"Charles the Wise: A Glimpse into the Reign of a Visionary King" Step back in time to witness the remarkable reign of Charles V, also known as Charles the Wise. This captivating portrait, created by Hildirbrand in 1898, offers a glimpse into the life and times of this influential ruler. One significant event that shaped Charles V's early years was when Etienne Marcel forced him to don the chaperon des Meutiers in 1358. This act marked a turning point for young Charles, foreshadowing his future as a wise and strategic leader. As we delve deeper into his story, we discover an intriguing manuscript depicting men drawing water from a well - an illustration found within Charles V's Bible. This vellum document showcases his devotion to both religion and knowledge. However, not all moments during his reign were peaceful. The shocking murder of marechaux Robert de Clermont and Jean de Conflans by Etienne Marcel sent shockwaves through France. It occurred right within the room where young Charles resided at Palais de la Cite on February 22nd. Yet amidst these tumultuous events, there were also moments of grandeur and celebration captured beautifully in Froissart's Chroniques manuscript. One page depicts Saint Louis' funeral procession in Paris in 1270 while another portrays Charles V's arrival in Reims for his coronation as king in 1364 - both rendered meticulously on vellum. The Louvre Palace stood tall during King Charles V's rule; its magnificence immortalized through vibrant color engravings from that era. It served as a testament to his commitment to arts and culture. In one poignant painting displayed on canvas, we witness Dauphin Charles being shown Etienne Marcel's lifeless body on August 2nd, 1358 - an event that undoubtedly left an indelible mark on the young prince's mind.
