Nylon comb advert from DuPont, 1952 C019/1284
Nylon comb advert from DuPont. Advert for DuPont nylon combs and toothbrushes, from the August-September 1952 issue of the DuPont Magazine (volume 46, number 4, page 44). Founded in 1913, this magazine featured the products and activities of the DuPont Company. By the 1930s DuPont (founded in the USA in 1802, 150th anniversary noted at lower right) had become one of the world's largest chemical companies. It expanded into other areas, with an emphasis on materials science. Nylon was a new material discovered by DuPont in 1935. Full-scale production started in 1939, and nylon was used in products such as toothbrushes and stockings

Selection of the latest styles of arranging the hair as adopted in Paris, and as practised by the leading Parisian hair-dressers. Using false additions to sufficient quantity of the hair to enable them to adopt any of these styles. Woman in the centre, bride's head-dress, with parting behind the ears, divided the hair into three equal parts, with the two lower ones make the full twist and with the upper one a small Greek bandeau which advances on the forehead. Back of the hair is arranged with a large bow or loop, ornamented with an oval wreath of orange blossoms and tuberoses.
