Gabriele d'Annunzio (1863-1938), an Italian poet, soldier, and writer, made a significant impact on both the literary and political landscapes of his time. One of his notable achievements was the capture of the town of Rijeka (Fiume) during the march of Ronchi on 12/09/1919. General Pittaluga attempted to interrupt their column but failed. During World War I, d'Annunzio served as a soldier and became renowned for his bravery. An illustration by Tancredi Scarpelli from "Storia d'Italia" portrays him in uniform, highlighting his dual role as a poet and warrior. D'Annunzio's artistic talents extended beyond writing poetry; he also collaborated with composers such as Riccardo Zandonai for works like "Francesca da Rimini. " A poster designed by Giuseppe Palanti advertises its premiere at the Theatre Regio de Turin on February 19th, 1914. In another artistic endeavor, d'Annunzio wrote "The Daughter of Jorio" in 1906. A captivating poster captures this theatrical work's essence while showcasing its allure to audiences. Not limited to land-based exploits, d'Annunzio took flight over Trieste in August 1915 during World War I. He dropped leaflets over the city as a symbol of resistance against enemy forces. Ambrogio Lombardi's drawing immortalizes this daring act. His creativity extended even further into stage design with a preparatory composition for the tragedy "Dead City. " The intertwined branches depicted in this artwork evoke emotions that parallel those found within D'Annunzio's dramatic works. Collaborating once again with Franchetti, D'Annunzio wrote "La Fille de l’Or, " which is highlighted through an enchanting poster from the late 19th century.
