Harrogate Ladies College

A girls school in a castle: Harrogate College's pleasant retreat at Lord Swinton's residence near Ripon, Yorkshire at the beginning of World War II. The school was evacuated to Swinton Park during the second world war, returning to it's premises after 1945

Marie Curie

Born in Poland in 1867, after receiving her secondary education she worked as a governess for eight years. Marie moved to Paris and read Physics at the Sorbonne, where she received a scholarhip which allowed her to move back to Poland to take a second degree in Mathematics. She married Pierre Curie in 1895 and their research into radioactivity resulted in a joint Nobel prize. (1903) Maire succeeded Pierre in the position of Professor of Physics at the Sorbonne after his death, and through her research she isolated pure radium. In 1911 she became the first person to be awarded the Nobel Prize on two occasions

Childrens Political World Map

A Political map of the World designed for school children. Based on the Van Der Grinten projection, the World map displays international political boundaries, including ones which are disputed. The map clearly marks each country in a different colour and shows major cities in five different population bands, with capital cities clearly marked in red. The corners of the map feature inserts showing the layout of the solar system and phases of the moon along with graphics ranking the four largest countries by population and land mass in comparison to the British Isles. Lines of latitude (parallels) and longitude (meridians) are marked
