During the Second World War many houses were destroyed, due to this, prefabricated houses (prefabs) were built, quickly and cheaply providing quality housing with all the amenities, central heating, modern kitchens, built-in cupboards. These photographs here in 1945, shows prefabs being built within 3 and an half hours in Shirehampton, Bristol, using aluminium salvaged from crashed aircrafts, they were sponsored by The Ministry of Aircraft Production. Mount Pleasant Hotel, Kings Cross, London
The Mount Pleasant Hotel at the corner of King's Cross Road and Calthorpe Street, Central London. The building was originally erected in 1894 as one of London's six Rowton Houses - large, purpose built, low cost hostels or doss houses for working men. They were established by Lord Rowton (Montagu William Lowry Corry, 1838-1903)
