The station opened in June 1856 and had a timber train shed. It closed to passengers in September 1963 and then to goods in 1984

A reproduction of John Speed's historical map of the county of Oxfordshire. Originally published as part of his atlas called The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britain in 1610. John Speed ((1552-1629) was a renowned English cartographer, his maps themselves were of high quality and gained a great reputation for being among the best county maps

The River Thames at Whitchurch, near Pangbourne, c1890

A view taken across the Mill Pond from the toll bridge in Whitchurch on Thames. Red brick cottages sit on the water's edge, next to the old mill, just out of shot to the left. The tower of St Mary's church can be seen in the centre of the image. This photo was produced by Photochrom and was used as a carriage print by the Great Western Railway in the late 1800s
