Camille Raspail's 1878 portrait of Francois-Vincent Raspail (1794-1878) captures the multifaceted legacy of this French trailblazer. A renowned chemist and naturalist, Raspail is best known for his contributions to the cell theory in biology and the use of microscopes. Yet, his impact extended beyond the lab, as an early advocate for sanitation and diet reform.
