Rheinhausen is a municipality in the district of Wesel, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, and is situated on the right bank of the Rhine River and has a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages. The town's strategic location made it an important trading center during the Hanseatic League era. The name "Rheinhausen" translates to "house on the Rhine," which refers to its original settlement near a fortified house or castle along the riverbank. Over time, Rheinhausen grew into a thriving community with various industries such as textiles, metalworking, and shipbuilding. One of Rheinhausen's most notable landmarks is its 13th-century Stiftskirche (abbey church), which features stunning Gothic architecture and beautiful stained-glass windows. The church has undergone several renovations throughout its history but still maintains much of its original charm. In addition to its historical significance, it also boasts picturesque scenery along the Rhine River. Visitors can enjoy boat tours or hike through nearby nature reserves like the Niederrheiner Naturpark (Lower Rhine Nature Park). Today, Rheinhausen remains a charming small town with around 8,000 residents who appreciate their unique heritage while embracing modern amenities and services for daily life.
