Robert Wadlow, also known as the "Giant of Illinois," was a man who held the Guinness World Record for being the tallest person in recorded history. Born on February 22, 1918, in Alton, Illinois, Robert stood at an incredible height of 272.6 cm (8 ft 11.1 in) and weighed around 199 kg (439 lbs). His extraordinary growth was due to a condition called pituitary gigantism, caused by an overproduction of growth hormone. As a child, Robert's unusual size made everyday tasks challenging for him and his family. He had to use special equipment such as oversized furniture and shoes that were custom-made for him. Despite these difficulties, Robert remained cheerful and friendly throughout his life. Robert's fame began when he started touring with circus sideshows at the age of eight years old. During this time, he met many famous people including presidents Franklin D Roosevelt and Harry S Truman. In addition to performing with circuses, Robert also appeared on numerous television shows and traveled extensively across the globe.
