Ruby Goldstein was a renowned American boxer and boxing promoter, best known for his association with the famous boxer Jack Dempsey. Born on January 18, 1887, in New York City to Jewish immigrant parents from Poland and Russia, Goldstein began his career as a professional boxer in the early 1900s. Goldstein's most notable achievement came when he discovered Jack Dempsey in 1914. At that time, Dempsey was working as a miner in Colorado but had previously fought several amateur bouts. Impressed by Dempsey's skills and potential, Goldstein decided to promote him professionally. Under Goldstein's guidance and promotion, Dempsey went on to become one of the greatest boxers of all time. Their partnership led to some of the most iconic fights in boxing history, including Dempsey's world heavyweight title victory over Jess Willard in 1919. As a promoter and manager for many years before discovering Jack Demspey, Ruby also worked closely with other prominent boxers such as Mike McTigue (the first Irish-born champion) who won against Gene Tunney during their fight at Madison Square Garden.
