Nelsons Flagship Foudroyant - Blackpool, Lancashire

The decaying hulk of Horatio Nelson's Flagship Foudroyant wrecked on the beach at Blackpool, Lancashire. On 16 June 1897 during a violent storm when under tow, she parted a cable and dragging the remaining anchor, went ashore on Blackpool Sands, damaging Blackpool North Pier in the process. Date: 1897

Chelsea F.C. v Woolwich Arsenal 1907

The first Football League match between two teams from the southern half of England. Two years after their founding, Chelsea FC play host to Woolwich Arsenal in front of over 60, 000 spectators at Stamford Bridge, and win 2 - 1. On the left, the two captains, WIndridge and Sands, shake hands. On the right, the Chelsea goalkeeper makes a save. Date: 9 November 1907
